Urawa played Montedio Yamagata in the J-League Cup (like the league cup but only involves J1 teams). For the first time in a long while Urawa WON 2-0 was the final result, where Edmilson and Haraguchi both got on the score sheet. Edmilson scored in first half stoppage time, and then in the 89th minute Haraguchi scored the second, giving a us a first leg win. GK: Kato DF: Takahashi; Yamada (No); Nagata; Ugajin MF: Keita; Kashiwagi; Richardes; Haraguchi FW: Takasaki; Edmilson Subs 57min Kashiwagi > Tatsuya 67min Takasaki > Mazola 83min Edmilson > Naoki

Urawa take on Omiya Ardija in the Saitama City Derby tomorrow at the NACK5 Stadium (Omiya).
As always I will post up all the details of the game tomorrow.

The second Saitama Derby of 2011 (Saitama Cup was the first) was an exciting one from what I could see from highlights. Although Urawa were 2-0 down early in the second half. Not that the Reds played bad it was just, once again, a lack of something upfront to convert chances and what can be best described as a lackluster defence (as you may notice from previous highlights a lot of the goals conceeded have been because players haven't been 'on the ball'). For the second game running Kato played in goal ahead of regular first choice Yamagishi. I didn't think Kato did bad tbh. I was very impressed with him in the game against Yamagata the other week, in the cup, and thought he did well against Omiya yesterday. Only time will tell if he can keep his spot as first choice, and where that may lead. Anyway Urawa drew level after Richardes...fell over in the box, from what I can see. Edmilson then converted the pen to make it 2-1. Then, in the 73rd minute, Genki Haraguchi broke down the left with the ball, got to the box, fell over and then blasted the ball into the back of the net to make it 2-2. Awesome goal. And thats how the game finished. I can take a draw as in recent years Urawa have struggled to get anything out of games against Omiya. They are like a boggy team. Here is the team: GK: Kato DF: Takahashi; No. Yamada; Nagata; Ugajin MF: Keita; Kashiwagi; Richardes; Haraguchi FW: Takasaki; Edmilson Subs HT Takasaki > Tatsuya 66min Yamada > Spiranovic 72min Keita > Mazola

Urawa took on high flying Sanfrecce Hiroshima yesterday, in a game which I was certain Reds would lose. Hiroshima's current form has been very good and Urawa haven't won in five, but then haven't lost. The game turned out to be a really boring 0-0 draw. With both teams missing bundles of chances and no one taking the upper hand. GK: Kato DF: Takahashi; Spiranovic; Nagata; Hirakawa MF: Keita; Yamada; Kashiwagi FW: Richardes; Tatsuya; Edmilson Subs 68min Kashiwagi > Naoki 76min Tatsuya > Mazola 90+2min Edmilson > Umesaki

Well I'm not going to beat around the bush today. Urawa got out played for the entire game, bar a 15 minute spell when we scored, and lost 3-1 to Shimizu S-Pulse. It was complete and utter pile of poo from I have read. It is starting to get me worried now that Urawa can not seem to win a league game. Urawa face the bottom placed team Avispa Fukuoka on Wednesday, who have only 1 pt. If we lose or draw this I can safely say Urawa will get relegated this year. This is what happens when you get in foreign managers who can't speak a word of Japanese, to manage a Japanese football team. Anyway here is the squad from the game yesterday: GK: Kato DF: Takahashi; Tsuboi; Nagata; Hirakawa MF: Keita; Yamada (No); Kashiwagi FW: Tatsuya; Richardes; Edmilson Subs 34min Tsuboi > Hara 60min Keita > Mazola 69min Tatsuya > Umesaki

Urawa played and beat Avispa Fukuoka 3-0. It could have easliy have been by more, but that is one of Urawas problems at not being able to convert chances into goals. Keita, Richardes and Edmilson got the goals. Keita setup and scored his goal in the 55th minute. Edmilson came on in the 71st minute, for Mazola, and went on to setup Richardes with a great cross. He then scored himself when kashiwagi, who came on for Tatsuya, burst down the left hand side and lifted in a cross for the loitering Edmilson to tap in. Anyway 3-0 is a great result. Next up is a tough away match at Nagoya Grumpus (who we did beat 3-1 earlier on in the season). The team line up: GK: Kato DF: Takahasi; Spiranovic; Nagata; Hirakawa MF: Keita; Kojima, Naoki; Richardes FW: Mazola; Tatsuya Subs 67min Keita > No. Yamada 71min Mazola > Edmilson 79min Tatsuya > Kashiwagi Just as an extra point it looks as though this was Edmilsons last game in the famous Red of Saitama. Thought he has been a bit of donkey this year. Hasn't excited me at all. He only seemed to come to life against Avispa (probably because he only had to play 19 minutes). Not a major loss. But still good luck to him as it looks as though he is heading to/for Qatar.

Urawa played Nagoya Grampus Eight on Saturday. If you can remember back, to the second game of this broken up season, Urawa played and beat Nagoya 3-1, giving us our first win of the season. How times have changed. Since then Urawa have been lodged in the bottom half of the table. Thanks to the win last week against Avispa, however, Urawa seem to be slowly clawing themselves up the table. Anyway back to the game in hand. Urawa drew, yet again, 1-1 with Nagoya. I say drew loosely. We had all but lost the game. 98th minute and, from what I can see, ex Urawa CB Tulio Tanaka touches the ball with his arm giving us a penalty. Mazola stepped up and slotted home the pen with the last kick of the game. Rejoice ;D Here is the, strange, team line up: GK: Kato DF: Takahashi; Spiranovic; Nagata; Hirakawa MF: Keita; Nobuhisa; Naoki; Richardes; Hara FW: Tatsuya Subs 26min Richardes > Haraguchi 61min Keita > Mazola 77min Tatsuya > Umesaki Next up is Gamba Osaka at home on Saturday. Going to be a very tough game.

Once again Urawa managed to draw 1-1, this time against Gamba Osaka. Genki Haraguchi got Urawa's goal in the 77th minute, after Gamba scored in the 56th minute thanks to Usami (G.Osaka). Team line up: GK: Kato DF: Takahashi; Spiranovic; Nagata; Hirakawa MF: Keita; No. Yamada; Haraguchi; Richardes FW: Hara; Tatsuya Subs 66min Nobuhisa > Naoki 76min Keita > Kashiwagi 76min Tatsuya > Mazola Highlights:

Urawa played Kawasaki Frontale on Wednesday at the 2002 Saitama Stadium. This was a game that, as usual, I was expecting to lose. But I was pleasently suprised. The evening started off with new signing Ranko (not the best of names ;D) coming onto the pitch and waving to the fans. He seemed to get a good welcome. Lots of cheers and clapping. The game was a bit static to start off with, With Frontale's Junior taking shot after shot. There was a real "FFS" moment when Mitsuru NAGATA (defender) pulled some skills on himself and lost the ball. Lucky for us Junior (Frontale) is shit and missed the missed the goal The second half though was much better. Haraguchi scored a rocket of a shot to make it 1-0 to the Mighty Red Diamdond's of Urawa, after cutting in from the left wing. Then from a corner Nagata made up for his earlier "mistake" to make it 2-0 from close range. And that is how the game ended. Brillient. Now all we need to do is win our next, and the one after that, and after that, and etc etc.... Here's the team: GK: Kato DF: Takahashi; Spiranovic; Nagata; Hirakawa MF: Keita; Kashiwagi; Richardes FW: Haraguchi; Takasaki; Tatsuya Subs: 55min Richardes > Naoki 71min Tanaka > Sergio 78min Takasaki > Mazola Kato and Yosuke Kashiwagi have got the goal cover. Kato: "I got it..." Kashiwagi "Well I've got the goal covered"

Saturday saw Urawa take on Jubilo Iwata. But once again our old foe arose to smite us in the last minute of the game. Kashiwagi set Urawa in the right direction on 29 minutes, scoring a great goal. And that was it really. Some huffing and puffing but nothing of any merit. Ranko came on the 65th minute, for his debut, and did well. Nearly got a goal, hitting the post. He wasn't magical but he wasn't shit either. Only time will tell if he was a good buy or not. All seemed well until the 93rd minute when Spiranovic gave away a penalty. Iwata scored it and the game ended with yet another draw Team line up: GK: Kato DF: Takahashi; Spiranoivc; Nagata; Hirakawa MF: Keita; Kashiwagi; Richardes FW: Sergio; Haraguchi; Takasaki Subs 65min Takasaki > Ranko 68min Haraguchi > Tatsuya 83min Sergio > No. Yamada
