Duns hit 5 in season opener Dundela 5-1 Bangor 10/08/2013 Championship 1 Dundela hit Bangor for 5 goals in this first game of the season, McClelland, Burns, Cherry, Beggs and Irwin(pictured) were the Duns scorers. Dundela were rocked before kick off when star signing Michael Halliday pulled up during the warm up and had to be replaced by Jamie Jackson. It was the latter who had a hand in the early opener for The Duns when his shot was blocked Mark McClelland was on hand to settle any early nerves with a confident finish. The game was being played at a frenetic pace with both sides intent on attacking at every opportunity, but no more goals came before the break. HT 1-0 Just as in the first half Dundela grabbed a quick goal, Owain Beggs shot coming back of the post only for Daniel Burns to fire in and within five minutes it was three with Kyle Cherry scoring an absolute belter from all of thirty yards. Dundela were now on fire and Beggs notched the fourth with a confident finish. Bangor however did pull on back soon after through Melly but it was too little too late as Gary Irwin finished the scoring with a sublime finish after being put through by the impressive Beggs. Dundela 4-0 Knockbreda 20th August 2013 @ Wilgar Park League
Dundela continued their great start to the season with a convincing win over Knockbreda at Wilgar Park. Goalscorers for The Duns were Burns, Beggs(pen), Halliday and Irwin(pen).
Dundela got of to the best possible start when Daniel Burns stuck after only two minutes, following up after Mark McClelland’s shot was blocked.
In an action packed first ten minutes Dundela could easily have scored another three goals although ‘breda also threatened with Chines stricking the bar for the visitors.
The home side were having the bulk of the play and imposing their slick passing game on Knocbreda who were having difficulty in dealing with it and just passed the half hour mark it was 2-0. Mark McClelland was bundled over in the box by former Duns player Chisholm and Owain Beggs despatched the resultant spot kick.
HT 2-0
The second half was barely five minutes old when the away side were reduced to ten men, centre half Wright floored Beggs with a dangerous challenge with referee Burns rightfully showing him the red card.
The sending off seemed to spur Knockbreda on and to their credit attempted to get back into the game at the same time defending resolutely when Dundela attacked.
Despite threatening to add to their goal tally Dundela did not break through again until ten minutes from time when Halliday struck and a few minutes later Irwin added the fourth from the spot after a handball offence.
FT 4-0

Sx hit Duns march on. Posted on September 15, 2013 by Alan Lisburn Distillery 3-6 Dundela 14/09/2013 Steel & Sons Cup
Dundela stormed into the fourth round with an action packed 6-3 victory over former premier league outfit Lisburn Distillery.Goalscorers for The Duns were McComb(3), Halliday, Burns and Owens.
This game at Ballyskeagh had be seen as tie of the round by many people and it certainly lived up to that with a nine goal thriller.
Both teams were quick out of the blocks as the game started at a frenetic pace and either side could have taken the lead within ten minutes. But with almost twenty minutes on the clock Michael Halliday struck the first blow for Dundela with a well placed header.
The next twenty minutes saw both sides attack and but for some fine goalkeeping The Whites could have drawn level while at the other end the Dundela forwards were being frustrated by some resolute defending.
Dundela’s second goal arrived with a little over five minutes to go before the break, Daniel Burns pace too much for Distillery’s back line as he broke clear and unsefishly squared the ball for Carl McComb to finish. It was almost three as half time approached when Jamie Jackson had his header saved when it looked like he would score. HT 0-2
Within ten minutes of the re start Dundela had doubled their lead firstly through McComb’s second of the afternoon and followed soon after by a towering header from central defender Kyle Owens who’s aerial ability is a useful asset to have for The Duns.
Dundela were now hungry for more and but for some fine goalkeeping and last ditch defending the score could have been embarrassing for the home side. The Duns grabbed their fifth of the afternoon through the impressive Daniel Burns fine strike from just inside the box.
Distillery got what seemed to be a consolation goal soon after when Kingsberrys shot was deflected into his own net by Stephen Gourley. Remarkably The Whites scored two further goals as the game entered the final ten minutes, Dundela seemed to lose concentration after going five up much to the anger of manager Snodden. With the game now in added on time Kyle Cherry was sent off after two yellow cards within a few minutes of each other, the second of those was rather harsh to say the least.
The final goal of the game was one that Whites defender Darren Nixon would not want to see again as he seemed to trip over the ball at the edge of the penalty area leaving McComb with the easiest of tasks to slot the ball into the net and secure his hat trick. FT 3-6
Dundela McKay, Murphy(Black 68), Davison, Cherry, Owens, Ferguson(Gourley 40), Jackson, Gilliland(Irwin 60), McComb, Halliday, Burns.
Unused subs Collins, Sergeant.
Dundela have landed a home draw in the 4th Round of the Steel & Sons Cup against Downpatrick FC. The game will be played on 28th September Kick Off 2.30pm.

Cherry is Star of the show Dundela 3-1 Crumlin Star
Photo by geograph.ie A double from Kyle Cherry and a Kyle Owens goal secures Dundela's place in Steel and Sons final By Kevin Herron
Championship One leaders Dundela secured their place in the Steel and Sons Cup final on Christmas Day thanks to a 3-1 victory over Amateur league side Crumlin Star on Friday evening at Seaview. The East Belfast side dominated first half proceedings and lead 2-0 at the break with an early Kyle Cherry goal being followed up by Kyle Owens back post finish. Crumlin Star were given a lifeline early in the second half when Barry McKervey converted a penalty for a foul on Steven Brown. Dundela restored their two goal advantage late on with Cherry blasting home his second of the game to secure the Dun’s place in the December 25th showpiece.
Dundela made the brighter start at Seaview and were unfortunate not to hit the front after two minutes. Gary Irwin’s delivery from a corner picked out Michael Halliday who was left free in space, but Hallidays bullet header was just over the crossbar. Ten minutes later the opener arrived for the Championship One pacesetters. Carl McComb knocked the ball down at the edge of the area and Crumlin defence were slow to react as Kyle Cherry rifled a low drive into the corner of the net to give Dundela a well deserved 1-0 lead. Cherry almost had his second of the evening four minutes later; though this time he found the side netting with his shot. Minutes later Ross Davison sent a great cross into the middle to Michael Halliday, though the veteran striker glanced his header wide of the post.
Crumlin Star carved out their first real opportunity on 24 minutes and Dundela had goal-keeper Steven McKay to thank for keeping their lead intact. Barry McKervey pulled the ball back from the by-line to the incoming Francis Murphy who drew a great save from McKay, and then keeper quickly got up to spread himself and deny Ciaran Murphy from the follow-up.
Dundela continued to push for a second goal. Michael Halliday forced a good save low down from Malachy Thompson of the half-hour mark, before Gary Irwin sent a shot from the edge of the area over the bar four minutes later. The pressure on the Crumlin defence told on 36 minutes. Kyle Cherry’s free kick was headed on by Carl McComb and Kyle Owens was waiting at the back post to turn the ball home and make it 2-0 Dundela.
Things almost got even worse for the Star on 40 minutes when Carl McComb latched onto a pass back and went through one-on-one with Malachy Thompson, but the keeper stood tall and denied the Dundela striker from making it three, as the sides went in at the interval with the score at 2-0.
Crumlin Star needed to reply early in the second half to make a game of it, and on 48 minutes they were handed a lifeline when Ross Davison chopped down Steven Brown in the area and referee Peter McGrath pointed to the spot. Barry McKervey took responsibility for the kick and sent the Steven McKay the wrong way to make it 2-1 and game on with 40 minutes of the semi-final remaining.
On 55 minutes Dundela should have restored their two goal advantage, Carl McComb laid the ball off for Daniel Burns to shot, though Malachy Thompson made an excellent save to thwart Burns. The Dun’s missed another guilt edged opportunity on 63 minutes. Kyle Cherry played in Carl McComb who may have took an extra touch, but opted to shoot with his shot shaving the post.
On 78 minutes Dundela did restore their two goal advantage. A costly slip from Paul McLarnon gave Kyle Cherry a chance to pull the trigger, and Cherry made no mistake blasting the ball beyond the reach of the stranded Thompson to make it 3-1 Dundela, who were surely heading to the Christmas Day decider.
Crumlin Star continued to battle to the death, but Dundela seen the game out comfortably to secure their place in the Steel and Sons Cup Final. The Dun’s must now wait until Monday to see who they will face in the final with Immaculata taking on Ballyclare Comerades at Seaview in the second semi.
