Due to the very shit season Urawa had last year, and the lack of anything good happening at the club, I have made the decision to turn my allegiance somewhere else. And where better than 2011 J2 and Emperor's Cup Champions FC Tokyo (the only team I know of in Japan whose colours are also Red and Blue). So here we go. New year. New team.

Little bit about Tokyo's background and a link off for more info. [From The Rising Sun News] FC Tokyo is an unusual example of a club that missed the original creation of the J.League and subsequent expansion phase, yet which has not experienced much of a history in the J2. It has spent all but one year of its professional existence in the J1. The club, based in western Tokyo, became a professional club with the creation of the J2, in 1999, and earned promotion in the J2's inaugural season. Nevertheless, the team from which FC Tokyo was born has been around for quite a while. It originated as the club team of Tokyo Gas, and was located in the western suburbs of Tokyo. When the J.League was formed, Tokyo Gas opted to remain in the JFL, where it was one of the most successful club teams. When the league was reconstituted for a second time, in 1998, Tokyo Gas FC decided it was time to make the jump to professional status. The club convinced Tokyo Gas to grant it corporate independence, and it assumed the name FC Tokyo. www.the-rising-sun-news.com/news/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=77&Itemid=88en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F.C._Tokyo

Ha, someone apart from me has posted on one of my threads...finally ;D
Yeah I decided it was time to move on from Reds. Though I know a lot about the club and team, they way they seem to work (more as a franchise) doesn't really agree with me now I know more. I don't want to support some ManUre wannabe's.

Here is a pic of the FC Tokyo away shirt for 2012: I would post more frequently than I do on this thread but FCT do not have a proper English website, and thus I have to rely on google translate. Even so, here is a link to their website: www.fctokyo.co.jp/ Worth a look if you can. I'll also put a link to google toolbar, which is what I use to google search and translate web pages: www.google.com/intl/en_uk/toolbar/ff/index.html I think this is the one for firefox. If your using Internet Explorerer just google "google toolbar" and you should then be able to download the right one for your web browser.

It looks likely that FCT are going to sign Shimizu S-Pulse centre back Kosuke Ota. He signed for S-Pulse back in 2009 and has spent three years at the club. At 24 yrs old I think he is a good buy. Still time for development. I don't know whether he will go straight into a starting line-up. But considering the season doesn't start until March, he has a lot of time to impress the gaffer. Kosuke getting a little wet playing for S-Pulse Also it looks as though FCT might be able to hold onto international CB and captain of Tokyo Yasuyuki Konno. His deal to move elsewhere has stalled or something. It would be really good if we could keep hold on him. He is a class defender, and stayed with the team even after relegation in 2010, helping Tokyo to win the title in 2011 and gaining back a J1 spot. Konno playing for Japan against S.Korea

Its official, Kosuke Ota has signed for FCT. A good addition to the squad. Welcome aboard Ota.
Unfortunately though Yasuyuki Konno has signed for Gamba Osaka.

Check this site out if you get the chance: on-the-gas.blogspot.com/A very awesome blog written by a FCT fan. He also does a podcast with a fellow FCT fan called "Gas Talk". Well worth and read through and maybe a listen, if you can get to grips with the team.

As well as signing Kosuke Ota the other day, FCT also signed young left winger Hiroki Kawano from Tokyo Verdy. (From On The Gas as I don't know anything about Kawano) Kawano, just 21, is another left footer, and he joins a crowded group of second strikers/wingers that includes, among others, Naotake Hanyu, Sotan Tanabe, Tatsuya Yazawa, Yohei Otake and, of course, Naohiro Ishikawa. After a good, long scrub to get all that green off him I expect Kawano to leap towards the head of that queue (though those names weren't in order of course) and stake a claim for the left midfield spot in our first XI in the preseason, and he's become the signing I'm most excited to see in red and blue. Versatile enough to play out on the flank or behind a target man, and with pace and a bag of tricks to match, the wee man is the sort of player we've been lacking on the left, someone who can get by his man and deliver a decent ball into the box for the likes of Lucas, Sota Hirayama and Watanabe to attack. We had a good look at him in both the derbies in 2011, and if Takumi Abe were still around he could tell you how good Kawano is, as the former Verdy number 7 gave our rookie left back the run around for 90 minutes back in May, and then after coming on at halftime in the 'Battle of Tokyo' at the end of October he 'assisted' on Morishige's own goal that saw them earn a point.
Ota arrives after three seasons with Shimizu. During which time he forced his way into the national team reckoning, playing once for Japan but seeing his opportunities limited by the crowded competition at fullback. He was part of the 2007 Under 20 World Cup squad, where he was a teammate of Masato Morishige, and became an almost ever-present in the S-Pulse back line the past two seasons, making 28 appearances in 2010 and 33 starts last year.

Here are FCT's Asian Champions League fixtures for 2012. FCT are in group F along with Brisbane Roar, Beijing and Ulsan (S.Korea).
Wednesday, March 6 Matchday 1 vs Brisbane (A)
Wednesday, March 20 Matchday 2 vs Ulsan (H)
Wednesday, April 4 Matchday 3 vs Beijing (A)
Tuesday, April 17 Matchday 4 vs Beijing (H)
Wednesday, May 2 Matchday 5 vs Brisbane (H)
Wednesday, May 16 Matchday 6 vs Ulsan (A)
I think the main challenge here will be Ulsan, who will most likely win the group. The it is just a battle for second place. As Brisbane aren't that good "internationally" I can put them out of the running. Beijing may be a problem. They are a solid Chinese Super League outfit. But I think FCT could have the edge in that we have a lot of good quality players and enough to field league and cup team's.
